Coffee Percolator: Where drip coffee machines have dominated the world people still look for some interesting traditional brewing methods for a single serving. The most preferred option for one cup of coffee now is a percolator that has become better with age. If you don’t know how to use coffee percolator then our guide can come to your rescue. So let us begin the journey.

How To Use Coffee Percolator

Our thorough guide will help you learn about how to use coffee percolator. Have a look.

Stovetop Percolator

Stove Top Coffee Percolator

  1. Like other coffee brewing methods the stovetop percolator too requires water. First, decide on how many cups of coffee you desire to brew. It again depends on the stovetop percolator you have (Standard percolators can hold nearly 4 to 8 cups)
  2. Open lid. Depending upon the design of the percolator you may have to remove the upper basket to pour water. Fill the reservoir or tank with the required amount of water (do check the measurement marks indicated inside). Close lid
  3. Now position the pump tube inside the water so that it sits nicely. Then slide the basket into the tube. Position Spreader above grounds basket and finally snap the lid back to the percolator
  4. Now add ground coffee in the upper basket featuring small holes. Use nearly 1 tbsp per cup (for strong coffee) and 1 tsp for every cup (for weak coffee). You may have to do these adjustments according to your percolator for a tasty cup
  5. Place the stovetop percolator on a medium heat temperature and keep it for nearly 10 minutes. But do monitor the progress
  6. Remove the percolator from the oven with a towel to prevent burning and take out the basket comprising of soaked coffee. Discard or recycle coffee. And then pour coffee into the cup/s

Electric Percolator

Electric Percolator coffee

Electric percolators function in the same physical principles as stovetops but need less supervision and work from your end. See how you can operate electric percolators with the process mentioned below.

  1. Open lid, tube along with upper basket from the percolator. Pour cold and freshwater depending upon the number of cups in the lower chamber (check the water level for maximum fill)
  2. Place the coffee basket back in place and put ground coffee (measurement as mentioned in Point No. 4 of Stovetop Percolator). Close its lid
  3. Now that you have assembled the percolator and filled it with water and ground coffee then you are almost there. Just plug in a near socket and turn on the switch. Most electric percolators begin heating once plugged in automatically. But if your percolator has the ON button then you need to turn it. The percolator begins functioning as a regulator percolator
  4. Electric percolators mostly feature internal sensors that avoid overheating than maximum temperature. If you see there is NO pet or children near the area then you can turn on the timer and allow the machine to do the rest. Otherwise, wait for nearly (7-10) minutes and monitor the coffee progression in between
  5. If you have set the timer then the electric percolator signals once it has brewed coffee and shuts off automatically. Otherwise, unplug from the socket. Open its lid carefully and take out the upper basket with ground soaked coffee. Discard the coffee from the machine
  6. pour freshly brewed coffee into cup/s and enjoy every sip

Now you know how to use coffee percolator. It is easy, isn’t it? The only thing is you will have to monitor carefully while brewing coffee in Stovetop or Electric Percolator.
